The yellow star comes from the original 8 point star that was worn on the cap insignia by the 2nd U.S. Dragoons.

The green palmetto leaf stands for the Seminal Indian campaign

Flosurs De Lei & the scroll and motto Toujours Pret was given to the regiment by the French during World War 2. The motto was given to the regiment because it was the only Cavalry regiment to act as true Cavalry by riding into combat on borrowed French farm horses.

The words Toujours Pret mean "Always Ready"
